Slightly somber, kinda sexist & then some…

So I bit the bullet and contacted Jason\’s family with my intentions.   Its something I\’ve been meaning to do for a while but I\’ve been hesitant to do so because really who am I to decide when its OK to hone in on someone\’s grief?  I can only hope that the end result is positive as opposed to negative…  I\’m in the process of filling out the monsoon of paperwork that the government requires me to fill out to obtain actual charity status.  Originally I was going to go the not for profit route because it gave me more flexibility in terms of who I could/couldn\’t donate to.  However being recognized as an actual registered charity I will hopefully be taken more seriously and I can also issue tax receipts which generally encourages more people to give.  This is a big deal to me and I will do everything in my power to make it happen.  To get around the French bullshit that the QC government slaps on you for being well anything in QC, I\’m registering it in Ontario.

QC just has SO much red tape, everything has to be filled out in French, needs a French name blah blah blah so fuck em.  That\’s one thing Jason and I had in common, him being in New Mexico had to deal with the whole Spanish thing.  Myself living in Quebec and dealing with the French, well needless to say we had similar gripes.  OK yes QC\’s official language IS French but I am from Ontario so it just feels like the right thing to do.  Not only that, Jason and I are both Anglophones, so QC you can kiss my pasty white derriere and yes in case you were wondering its totally legal as long as its registered in Canada.  I\’m pretty excited about making this happen!  I\’m not saying anything more then that for now, but big plans for the future are most certainly ahead 🙂

Which once again leads me to work…  Don\’t I always talk about work 97% of the time?  Well today is no different, wish it was but alas its not meant to be.  OK this is going to sound racist but it is what it is.  As much as I hate stereotypes, one I can\’t help but think that some cultures do it to themselves.  Like a good friend of mine is fond of saying:\”They had to start somewhere right?\” I totally agree!  I personally don\’t care who you are, where your from, what your skin color is blah blah blah.  That means nothing to me, however it really gets my panties in a knot when people use the whole \”in my country\” shit.  Fuck you, THIS IS CANADA!  Deal with it, or quite simply go back to wherever your country is where that BS is acceptable, it however doesn\’t fly here.

Prime example, when I worked at the university we had tons of international students because of certain laws set forth if you were in fact an international student; you had to work at/for the university.  So this one snotty brat from ******** was asked to do some dishes, he pointedly said to his superior and I quote:\”I will do no such thing, in my country that\’s woman\’s work\” Excuse me?  So yeah needless to say he was terminated.  So today we have a new guy come in from the same country.  He asked me if the chicken needed to be sliced and portioned, I was on my way out and its not my job to train this little bastards so I said sure go ahead.  Then he says to me:\” Get me a container to put this in\”  Excuse me?  Or more like excuse you!  Where are your fucking manners you ignorant prick?  First of all, I\’m higher up on the totem pole then you WILL EVER be, secondly, you DON\’T EVER talk to me like that.  So I made a point of saying:\”They\’re over there, get one YOURSELF\” he did so in a huff and proceeded to glare at me the entire time I was there.  Let me tell you something kid, I wear the pants in that kitchen.

Not only that, D\’s showing him around and says \’M will be in soon so just hang out and see what goes on as I was 10 mins away from leaving.  So he says oh there\’s no need I\’ve been cooking for 4 years now so it\’ll be easy for me.  I just need to know what\’s what and I\’ll be fine.  Four years eh?  Well I got news for you, I\’ve been doing it for SIXTEEN years.  So obnoxious!  So I of course while waiting to meet someone at the Cafe next door went out of my way to be as offensive and obnoxious as possible.  Needless to say Friday is going to be a REAL treat since I\’M the one who\’s working both Friday & Saturday night, therefore I\’M IN CHARGE can\’t wait!

Douchebaggery! Among other things…

OK where can I start?  Really…  Thursday, a totally non douchey day!  I got to chill with the lovely Jen, Clint, Ron & Chantal before racing off to work for a few hours and then had a lovely gab with a very lovely person and her hubby.  So all in all it was a nice enjoyable day with good people & good conversation (thank you I needed that! <3).  Then Friday hit and everything just went to shit after that…  I get into work at 5pm as per the usual, nothing was too crazy but I had a feeling it was going to be \”one of those days\” all the while muttering I love my job…  Mostly to myself.  However sometimes most of the time I do in fact love where I work!  We have such a great team of people, lots of inside jokes, stupid little pranks and a pretty good atmosphere to top it off which is nice!  However culinary life, regardless of the role you partake in, isn\’t for everyone either.

My co-worker seemed at odds but he\’s still new-ish so that was the norm.  It does however get a little frustrating when you have to tell someone the same thing a 100 times.  If there\’s something wrong with you IE: you have a learning disability or something then for the love of God SAY SOMETHING!  Anyway, its about 6:15pm I\’m doing some dishes and general tidying up because Friday nights are usually pretty crazy and I wanted to be ready for the rush.  I happened to glimpse my co-worker sneaking out the door, thinking he was going out for a smoke.  Which irritated me to no end because we were only a little over an hour into service but whatever, gotta get your breaks in when you can right?  Then about 20 minutes roll by and I asked my manager if he could track him down because it was starting to pick up a little bit.  He left…  Didn\’t say a word to anyone, just snuck out the back door and out the alley in the back and went home.  Are you fucking kidding me?!?

Thankfully two people rose to the occasion and came into bail my ass out along with my manager (thanks guys!  I really appreciated that!) and all in all Friday night in spite of loosing a staff member was actually pretty smooth overall.  Didn\’t leave until 5am but it got done without any major mishaps.  So as much as that pissed me off, because that\’s such a white trash, douchy thing to do; in the end it was OK.  So I went home, crawled into my uber amazing bed and slept soundly.  So then Saturday rolls around, poor D had to work to replace my MIA co-worker which had to suck but we got it done.  We were having a good time, Saturday in fact was full of fun, laughter and some really bad commentary.  I had high hopes in spite of working with yet another new guy who had only worked a few shifts.  We were having a great time…  That is until about 9-ish when the whining started.  I have ZERO tolerance for anyone who whines, especially a 19 year old law student…   Asking me for a break when you\’ve only been there for 2 hours, TWO HOURS?!? Are you kidding me?  So whatever I figured he might as well take on now because if it got busy then the chances of him getting one at all were pretty nil.  Still irritating though just the same.

Then the nagging started…  Can I go home? No.  Why not? Because I said so.  and on and on it went.  This kid was really starting to get on my nerves!  Then it got busy, it got to the point where I was SO frustrated I wanted to cry.  It takes a lot to get me to that point…  I was so tired, I just quite simply couldn\’t take it anymore!  I didn\’t know if I was coming or going, my co-worker well there\’s only certain things he knows how to do and I tell ya sneaking out that backdoor was MORE then a little appealing to me.  If you know what I mean.  So I texted my immediate boss to make him aware of the situation and well to air out some frustration while I was at it.  I also mentioned to the owner who was working that night that I needed stronger help on the busiest days.  I mean seriously, we broke a fucking sales record last night!  Strong staff IS required!  What did he do? Shrugged it off and bacially gave me a look that said:\”what do you want me to do about it?\” FUCK THAT!

So I\’m out…  I can\’t do this anymore.  Culinary life has been my life since I started working.  Its whoring up all my time, making me bitter, jaded and so. very. angry.  I am going back to school but I wanted to pare down my Visa bill a little bit first but you know what?  I don\’t think that I can wait any longer…  So in the meantime I am \”exploring\” other avenues outside of my career field that can tide me over until I get my BA, hell even a diploma would suffice at this time.  Which sucks so hard because I love where I work!  The stress, the bullshit and the drama however is enough to make me want to throw myself in front of a bus!  When you walk out of work needing some Valium its time to go…  I\’m going to miss that place though when I go 🙁

On a random note, I really miss Jason!  So much!  I also miss being in school…  Who knew?

a whole lot of WTF and reunions!

Well this weekend has been the up-most roller coaster ride straight out of hell!  Work, well what can I say work is work.  Although I have to give kudos to the new guy!  He\’s my new bitch 😉  Seriously, he really is.  He\’s doing a pretty great job though I have to admit!  Lots of positive changes around work which is good.  Maybe in the end we\’ll all be happier!  I\’ve been itching to \”Steph-a-fy-\” that kitchen since I started working there and I finally got the backing, go ahead and support that I need from all the bosses and owners so that\’s pretty freaking awesome!

Then the other night I came home, checked my facebook and lo and behold there\’s a friend request from a very dear friend of mine that sadly feel out of my life for a number of reasons.  I knew he was on FB but didn\’t muster up the nerve to actually put forth the effort to \”be-friend\” him again.  That was the better part of 2 years ago and well he found me after 2 years of searching.  He spelled my last name wrong, which more often then not most people do.  So I guess we have been reunited once again which is nice actually!  I really missed him!  We were really close friends, and he was my rock when my life was horribly out of control in my early 20\’s.  I knew I could count on him and he on me.  He was the person when you felt like you had almost no one that you could count on, let alone trust but he was always there.  I cherished that friendship and I can\’t/won\’t go as far to say that we can \”pick up the pieces\” seeing as how we live in different provinces but still nice to re-connect just the same 🙂

So while I was having a nostalgic moment  I thought I would scope out my ex just to see if B was friends with G and turns out they weren\’t but then I discovered another old friend from my old life of long ago (by that I mean the 15-22yrs).   So we then played catch up and he\’s doing really well too which is fabulous!  I too wondered what on earth happened to him and how he was doing.  I have to say that out of the things I don\’t remember from that time period one thing I fondly recall is his going away party.  Which was the most epic toga party EVER!

Then while looking for something in my other not too often used e-mail address I got an e-mail from Jeremie whom I pretty much assumed that I wouldn\’t have anything to do with him because I apparently gave him the wrong impression about something inadvertently & unintentionally before and at least he was man enough to tell me as opposed to some people who just figure that they can ignore me and that\’s that…  But I\’m saving that for last…  Anyway he e-mailed me 5 days ago and I still had his number in my old cell phone so I figured since my other plans totally fell through,  why not give him a call.  So we ended up hanging out from about 9-ish til midnight so that was OK I guess.  Granted I had my head up my ass the whole time he was here…  Mostly because I was pissed at Micheal.  But whatever, at least my night wasn\’t a total loss.  Granted it could have been better… meh, whatever.0  I just really hate when people waste my time like that!

Randomness!

Start my new job on Wed, have Friday off and a whole lot of crazy insane shifts to look forward to, YAY!  Went shopping today and got the most adorable red wool jacket EVER and I LOVE it!  Along with some other nifty stuff that I don\’t feel as compelled to mention.

I\’m also pondering a decsion of sorts in regards to someone…  But yet I still can\’t seem to totally make up my mind just yet but I\’m thinking if something doesn\’t happen and soon, that\’s going to be a total deal breaker.   Part of it *isn\’t* \”control-able\” due to schedule conflicts and what not but still after a while the whole \”good things come to those who wait\” tends to loose its luster.  I do give them credit for trying at least!  Yet in the same token to coin a phrase from the song (which adds a touch of irony to the situation for reasons I won\’t disclose) beautiful by the smashing pumpkins:\” And I\’m sure you know me well, as I\’m sure you don\’t.  But you just can\’t tell, who you\’ll love and who you won\’t\” .

Which you know it\’d be nice to even have a minuscule amount of say over who\’ll you\’ll like, never mind love.  Aside from the title, another line  from this song also rings true (for a few different reasons): \”Don\’t let your life wrap up around you, don\’t forget to call whenever. I\’ll be here just waiting for you, I\’ll be under your stars forever.  Neither here nor there, just right beside you.\” Carrying on with the whole sappy factor, I adore this song too: by starlight

So enough of the sappiness from me… If your all wondering what in God\’s name has gotten into me, I really have no idea either!

So moving along in other news, since I\’ve been trying to stay up super late in order to get accustomed to my new shift(s) and in doing so have been trolling the internet for something to amuse me and well needless to say, it hasn\’t dissapointed me!  I really have to give the most credit to MILA (my life is average) and thanks to David who told me about it in the first place.  Because occasionally people will post random websites on there and of course I have to go and check them out because well why not?  Along with MILA …  FML (fuck my life) has some odd bits of humor as well.  Let\’s not forget texts from last night (TFLN) which also has a few gems!

Then I discovered: Cracked (which is full of funny off beat humor), not always right (as in the customer!) hilarious if you ever worked with the public!  Thought I would share that with you all 😉

Random MSN tidbit that I happen to think is funny in regards to a certain recent situation:

Steph: \”I told my mom (left out some details *I DON\’T tell her EVERYTHING but this was just too damn funny NOT too!) and she was laughing so hard she was in tears!\”

C:\”he could have asked for a few tips, since I bet youre quite skilled in bed\”

(Why yes, as a matter of fact I am, thanks! haha)  No in case your wondering, nothing happened and no I didn\’t get any recently.
