There are NO words…

Instead of posting a total downer post (ta da!) here\’s some useless, although highly amusing (to some) links.

Enjoy 😉

Natural harvest (hmm, wonder if I should add this to my recipe book collection?)

Puby panties? (not entirely safe for work or children) Who designs this stuff?  Seriously!

A killer top ten thanks to Twwly!

The most random lawsuit ever!

That\’s quite the er tramp stamp you got there…

Slightly somber, kinda sexist & then some…

So I bit the bullet and contacted Jason\’s family with my intentions.   Its something I\’ve been meaning to do for a while but I\’ve been hesitant to do so because really who am I to decide when its OK to hone in on someone\’s grief?  I can only hope that the end result is positive as opposed to negative…  I\’m in the process of filling out the monsoon of paperwork that the government requires me to fill out to obtain actual charity status.  Originally I was going to go the not for profit route because it gave me more flexibility in terms of who I could/couldn\’t donate to.  However being recognized as an actual registered charity I will hopefully be taken more seriously and I can also issue tax receipts which generally encourages more people to give.  This is a big deal to me and I will do everything in my power to make it happen.  To get around the French bullshit that the QC government slaps on you for being well anything in QC, I\’m registering it in Ontario.

QC just has SO much red tape, everything has to be filled out in French, needs a French name blah blah blah so fuck em.  That\’s one thing Jason and I had in common, him being in New Mexico had to deal with the whole Spanish thing.  Myself living in Quebec and dealing with the French, well needless to say we had similar gripes.  OK yes QC\’s official language IS French but I am from Ontario so it just feels like the right thing to do.  Not only that, Jason and I are both Anglophones, so QC you can kiss my pasty white derriere and yes in case you were wondering its totally legal as long as its registered in Canada.  I\’m pretty excited about making this happen!  I\’m not saying anything more then that for now, but big plans for the future are most certainly ahead 🙂

Which once again leads me to work…  Don\’t I always talk about work 97% of the time?  Well today is no different, wish it was but alas its not meant to be.  OK this is going to sound racist but it is what it is.  As much as I hate stereotypes, one I can\’t help but think that some cultures do it to themselves.  Like a good friend of mine is fond of saying:\”They had to start somewhere right?\” I totally agree!  I personally don\’t care who you are, where your from, what your skin color is blah blah blah.  That means nothing to me, however it really gets my panties in a knot when people use the whole \”in my country\” shit.  Fuck you, THIS IS CANADA!  Deal with it, or quite simply go back to wherever your country is where that BS is acceptable, it however doesn\’t fly here.

Prime example, when I worked at the university we had tons of international students because of certain laws set forth if you were in fact an international student; you had to work at/for the university.  So this one snotty brat from ******** was asked to do some dishes, he pointedly said to his superior and I quote:\”I will do no such thing, in my country that\’s woman\’s work\” Excuse me?  So yeah needless to say he was terminated.  So today we have a new guy come in from the same country.  He asked me if the chicken needed to be sliced and portioned, I was on my way out and its not my job to train this little bastards so I said sure go ahead.  Then he says to me:\” Get me a container to put this in\”  Excuse me?  Or more like excuse you!  Where are your fucking manners you ignorant prick?  First of all, I\’m higher up on the totem pole then you WILL EVER be, secondly, you DON\’T EVER talk to me like that.  So I made a point of saying:\”They\’re over there, get one YOURSELF\” he did so in a huff and proceeded to glare at me the entire time I was there.  Let me tell you something kid, I wear the pants in that kitchen.

Not only that, D\’s showing him around and says \’M will be in soon so just hang out and see what goes on as I was 10 mins away from leaving.  So he says oh there\’s no need I\’ve been cooking for 4 years now so it\’ll be easy for me.  I just need to know what\’s what and I\’ll be fine.  Four years eh?  Well I got news for you, I\’ve been doing it for SIXTEEN years.  So obnoxious!  So I of course while waiting to meet someone at the Cafe next door went out of my way to be as offensive and obnoxious as possible.  Needless to say Friday is going to be a REAL treat since I\’M the one who\’s working both Friday & Saturday night, therefore I\’M IN CHARGE can\’t wait!

The randomness that is my life…

So this is my first week with the schedule change and things are actually kind of OK for the most part.  Its a little different being there during the day working with and conversing with different people which is actually kind of nice.  Granted the totally inappropriate conversations are still very much never ending.  Like the great debate over just how much of a redhead I really am 😉  My hair color has changed somewhat exponentially over the years on its own due to age and the lack of sunshine that I expose it to.  However when I was a small child, my hair pretty much closely matched that of fire.  Nothing like looking as if you have a ball of flames attached to your scalp.  I offered to prove it to one of the owners at work but he declined lol.

Then we got to talking about the hockey game between Canada and the US that I quite frankly could care less about in any way shape or form because well its hockey so who cares.  OMFGWTFBBQ shocking I know…  But anyway I was talking to someone on the phone and they were screaming no no no in my ear and I couldn\’t help but lament on the fact that that was the first time I have ever had a guy scream no in my ear like that…

One can hope when I do decide to converse with said person again they aren\’t so damn crusty.  I can kind of figure out why seeing as how oddly enough there are certain aspects of said person that remind me all too much of myself.  I\’m OK with that, because then at the very least I know how to deal with that.  Nothing wrong with getting in touch with your inner Steph 😉  Then again they\’re also the greatest piece of inspiration behind my tattoo.  Don\’t quite know how to say, thanks to you I have my life back.  well I do, just don\’t know how to say it without sounding totally cheesy.

So were 7 days into the new year and so far nothing has sucked too bad…  Lots of work ahead but visa needs to get paid and the only way I can make that happen is to work my ass off some more.  I\’m not going home this summer, the cost is quite exponential overall which is slightly sad in a way seeing as how I only go to Ontario.  However when you factor in the time I need to take off of work, the cost of transportation, not to mention getting my tattoo fix whilst there and general entertainment expenses the end just doesn\’t justify the means for me when I have that much freaking debt. Well its not that bad, I know people who are FAR worse off in that department then I am but still I hate owing money.  I also hate only getting paid every 2 weeks, that\’s exceptionally irritating!

Soon I\’ll be back in school, that\’s kind of scary!  I\’m still holding off on my website because even though I finally feel as if I have my life back on track, I still haven\’t transferred everything over to this computer yet program wise and all my files are stashed on my other HDD  as well and that\’s just such a cumbersome task that I have little interest in embarking on for the moment.  It will get done, its just a matter of when really.  That and well I have too many other things that need to get out of the way first so it\’s just going to have to wait a little longer!

What a crazy weekend!

But it was pretty awesome!  Friday left a lot to be desired as my other problem child tooth was being a pain in my ass!  Thankfully its pretty much dead with only residual nerve endings left so its not exactly painful just epically irritating!  Work was kinda of insane, I got sung happy birthday a lot that day lol.  So I went from being 30, to 30 something :p  The best part of that day was coming home and having Krystal drop off my birthday cake!  Which was adorable, and exceptionally yummy!  OMG seriously the best chocolate mocha/with almond icing cake I have ever had!

I\’m still battling this cold/flu thing I have going on, teamed up with allergies which is just horrifying!  So needless to say I haven\’t been feeling a 100% regardless of the fact that I had my birthday soiree planned for Saturday.  The crappy thing about Saturday was I had a doctors appointment.  Don\’t get me wrong my OBGYN is actually really nice but I mean really who actually *likes* going to the gyno…  So he turned down my request to get my tubes tied and has been forewarned that I will badger him about it when I have to see him in December and any appointment after that lol.  Simply put: I DON\’T WANT KIDS!!!!!!!  The mere thought of having a child horrifies me and I would in all honesty would very much rather adopt *IF* I had the burning need to raise a child.  Like I told Dr. G there\’s too many un-wanted babies in this world that deserve a home, so why should I go to the trouble of spitting out one of my own?  That and I\’m sick of taking the pill.  No the $17.00/month cost is nothing compared of raising a child of course but it would mean FREEDOM from ALL forms of birth control. Le sigh…  *TMI WARNING* although one good thing did come out of my visit with Dr. G: He told me that when your on the pill your period is artificial and not even remotely necessary unless of course your trying to get pregnant.  SO he told me that yes its OK to take your 21 pills and start on a new pack right away without having to wait the customary 7 days before starting a new pack. Thank God for small favors!  So I\’m going to give that a whirl, I\’ll let you know how that all works out.

Anyway I was outta there by 1pm, and had some last minute things to pick up stuff  like garnishes for my martini fix, and some items to assist a friends foster pet shelter (reach for the stars rescue) since she was coming over to pick up stuff for her garage sale for charity anyway so I bought some new items for her for the animals, go to the bank, head off to the SAQ for some vanilla vodka and various other goodies to make various martinis that I had planned to experiment with later that evening and clean my apt because I was too tired to do it Friday evening.

I was almost tempted to cancel my party because I wasn\’t feeling a 100%, half of my guests were sick/had dental issues like myself and so on.  John was sick and couldn\’t make it so were going to get together sometime this week.  Every time I plan something either its a hit or a miss and I really thought that this was going to be a miss… I thought wrong!  My apt is tiny so I kept the guest list down to a minimum but it was fun!  Its nice to get together with people I  don\’t get to see very often and well who doesn\’t like birthday swag!  I have to say I have some VERY generous friends 🙂

I got a really nice book from Donna:

I Like You: Hospitality Under the Influence by Amy Sedaris (Hardcover)

Which is HILARIOUS!  A tad crass and far from being \”PC\”, I recommend this as a gift to anyone who\’s into food or entertaining and of course has a sense of humor!  I generally as a rule hate recipe books since I prefer to do things my way.  I have a subscription a Kraft Canada\’s what\’s cooking magazine because its helpful and practical (not to mention free in Canada woo hoo!) and  how to cook everything which is super helpful if your just starting out since it has a TON of techniques & helpful tips, not to mention some great recipes as well.  In today\’s day and age with the internet I generally hit up epicurious.com for some inspiration if I happen to be lacking or want to make something new.

Krystal made my birthday cake for me which was as already mentioned AMAZING!  Not to mention a great gift!  Megan in true foodie form bought me my very own basil plant which was also equally awesome.  My mom got me a magazine subscription and new wheels for my suitcase (well she gave me her CC number and an amount to spend and that\’s what I bought).  Shane and Dana made a contribution to my summer tattoo fund along with some nibs which is Shane & I\’s favorite licorice ( I bought him some as a wedding present ha ha) and nerds (which I haven\’t eaten in well over a decade)!  Along with some party snacks which was very sweet!  Ania also sent me an awesome gift from Poland as I have already mentioned full of handy stuff for my modifications and my favorite candy!  So I did pretty good!  I bought myself some birthday swag at the SAQ so I did pretty damn good if you ask me!

Dinner was simple since I was feeling a tad lazy and well just not well in general but still managed to pull off some awesome pizza!  I made (from scratch) pesto Alfredo pizza w/sun dried tomatoes, extra old cheddar and Parmesan cheese since Donna has a tomato allergy(so tomato sauce was a no no) and classic pepperoni and cheese with my homemade pizza sauce and garlic and cheese bread sticks.  Had it been in the winter I would have made something more hearty but I thought I would keep it simple.  But it was a hit, everyone really enjoyed it and I had a really good time!

So now time for pictures:

My cake:

I also got news that Carly\’s coming back to Canada for a visit and I can\’t wait to see her!  So that\’s pretty exciting!  I haven\’t seen her since she moved to West Virginia to be with her hubby so its been TOO long!  I\’m also toying with the idea of making a recipe book of my own…  I\’ve debated over it for a  while now and I just might actually do it.  But I don\’t know if I want to share my secrets with the world.
